On October 5th, Chef Gregory and Departure along with the James Beard Foundation are hosting ROOTS, a collaborative dinner presented by 13 Portland-based James Beard nominated, semifinalist and award-winning chefs. Castagna, Coquine, Pok Pok, and Beast are just four of the restaurants being featured that night, and Congressman Earl Blumenauer will headline the event to bring awareness to the soon to expire Farm Bill.

 

Chef Gregory will emcee the event, as the Farm Bill “includes so many things that I was already passionate about, from conservation to environmentalism to organic farming,” explains Gourdet. “These topics are important to me and a lot of people I know, if not the entire culinary community in Portland.” A portion of the night’s proceeds will go to the Farmers Market Fund, which is a local non-profit that allows SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) recipients to double the amount of money that they can spend at local farmers market.
